This is a chance for friends and firms to give rugby a go:
A rugby tournament with no tackles and a lot of laughs is being held in Wymondham in July.
It is the third rugby “Touch” festival to be staged by the Wasps, the Ladies team from Wymondham Rugby Club, and it is open to anyone, especially if they have never played before.
“The whole idea is to get new people to have a go,’ explained organiser Charly Green, from the Wasps.
“This is a really friendly tournament that has taken off over the past couple of years. Local firms and groups make up teams and we have a rule that all teams must include at least two women and two people who have never played so it’s a great way of getting fit and having some fun.”
Touch rugby is a version of the sport where players are not tackled in the usual way but instead have to pass the ball if an opposing player gets close enough to touch them.
Charly said: “Touch is one of the fastest growing areas of the sport. A lot of rugby players move on to it after they’ve given up the traditional version of the game but we’re also seeing more people take up from scratch. It’s fast, fun and very competitive.”
The Touch tournament is being held at Wymondham Rugby Club on Tuttles Lane on Saturday 23rd July. It’s for mixed teams of up to 12 players per team, though only six play at any one time, and the games are ten minutes long.
The day will start with some free coaching so everyone understands the rules and the tournament takes place in the afternoon. The entry fee is £60 per team and that includes lunch.
