...a Gloucester RUFC fan, who just before Christmas 2011 thought it was a good idea to get rugby fans from all clubs and countries talking together on Twitter.
From this idea the Twitter movement of #rugbyunited was born. The idea was to create an online community embodying the ethos and spirit of our game, somewhere you could swap ideas, discuss games and enjoy the very special "banter" fans of rugby share regardless of the teams they support.
Last week the idea was put forward to have a grassroots or amateur club of the week and due to the clubs presence on twitter (@swaffhamrufc) and it's involvement in discussions within the #rugbyunited community we were chosen to be the very first #rugbyunited amateur club.
This has led to numerous new followers who are receiving the news from the club every time the @swaffhamrufc is updated with match reports, events or just things which the club wishes to share. These new followers are for across the globe and stories of their time in rugby either at their own clubs or when they have previously been in the region are being shared.
This is a brilliant opportunity to raise the profile of a small grassroots club with a much wider audience and we are very grateful for this opportunity.
With the club looking to travel to a number of summer tournaments this year this "award" has already directly led to a number of invitations from across the country and working with Trevor and his team it is hoped that this exposure will help secure further benefits for the club.
