Outstanding Recruitment Opportunities with Cash!!!
Eastern Counties has secured three different and excellent initiatives to recruit players and establish better school links.
What really is outstanding with this is it comes with a finance option available.
These are great schemes and E.C. Community Committee should be applauded for the initiatives so lets make sure Clubs in Norfolk really make the most of it.
Well done E.C.
SCHOOL / CLUB LINKS – FUNDING FOR MATCHES
We are conscious that many youngsters play rugby at schools (in both state and private sectors), but many finish school without ever having seen a rugby club.
In a post education environment, there is only one place where rugby is played !
Consequently, we are keen to create an environment where school rugby sides between the ages of 16 and 18 can play the occasional game in the different environment of a rugby club.
We are therefore offering grants of up to £250 for any event where 2 school sides play at a club – and we would hope that each event could possibly, but not necessarily, run to 2 matches, or even more.
This could take the form of the clubs Colts XV playing a local school, supported by a similar U16 game.
Or a festival with a club’s Colts side, the 2nd XV of a leading private school and 2 state schools, perhaps.
Or a Festival involving 4 sixth form colleges.
Or 2 school sides playing each other as towns / villages.
The first event is already organised ! – one of our larger clubs Colts XVs is playing a leading private school 1st XV under lights on a Thursday, preceded by the club’s Colts Development XV playing the school 2nd XV.
These are only suggestions, the choice is yours !!
We are targeting 8 such events in this coming 14/15 season
If you are interested, please send me the grains of your idea, and I can see how it can be developed and how Eastern Counties can help.

Again our RDOs & CRCs will be discussing this initiative with you.
BRINGING BACK 16-24 YEAR OLDS TO RUGBY
DO YOU WANT TO EARN £500, AND RECRUIT SOME NEW PLAYERS ?
We are inviting clubs to apply for funding to deliver an event of their choice, or from RFU suggested models, in order to bring back 16-24 year olds to their club.
There will be £500 per approved event !!
This is your opportunity to increase your player numbers in a fun environment.
Please see attached “flyer”.
Please consider how you could develop such an event.
If you wish to discuss this further, or have any ideas, please contact your RDO or CRC or Darren Gourley at the RFU DarrenGourley@rfu.com
UNIVERSITY RETURNERS FESTIVALS / GAMES
Many, many clubs run very successful youth sections, but lose players once they go to university.
In Eastern Counties, we are looking to run university returners festivals / matches in the Christmas and Easter holidays – probably under lights, but possibly at the weekend. The format of the festival would be up to you – 7s, 10s (recommended), possibly 15s – involving maybe last years’ colts / previous years’ colts / local school OBs / neighbouring clubs’ old colts etc etc.
The choice is yours !!
This would give clubs the opportunity to remain in contact with their players who are at university, and reap the harvest of earlier years, with players returning to their home club post university. Maybe you already hold a game or event along these lines, but need to develop it or ‘spice it up’.We have been able to obtain significant funding from the RFU, and are now targeting 3 events in each of the 2 holidays – with a budget of around £350 per event.
Eastern Counties could offer a significant financial contribution to the cost of running the event (medical / referee / food / refreshments etc) through the RFU Innovation Fund.
If you are interested, please send me the grains of your idea, and I can see how it can be developed and how Eastern Counties can help.

We are looking for ideas – We want to spend the RFU’s money !!! - I look forward to hearing from you. Our RDOs & CRCs will be discussing this initiative with you.
