Norfolk win Three Counties Cup beating Suffolk 34 to 7
On Wednesday the 6th April a Senior Norfolk Side took on Suffolk at Bury St. Edmunds Rugby Club.
Norfolk had already beaten Cambridge 45 to 29 at home at Thetford avenging their defeat from the previous year.
Suffolk had lost to Cambridge so Norfolk were entering the game in as favourites although Suffolk we're certainly confident and they certainly came out of the blocks at a high tempo. They dominated possession in the initial fifteen minutes but Norfolk's Defensive system remained solid and Norfolk's scrummaging was particularly impressive regular driving Suffolk of their own ball.
Norfolk managed to gain some possession and scored an excellent try.
They Suffolk continued to have a majority possession but Norfolk's defence could not be broken and Norfolk scored a couple more tries.
The Suffolk possession lead Norfolk consed a series of penalties which lead to their No. 8 to be yellow carded.
Suffolk soon took advantage of the extra man and scored just before half time.
Norfolk held on until there man returned to the game and from then on they were quite dominant.
Norfolk ran out 34 to 7.
Norfolk had a couple of players who played in multiple positions who were outstanding as where the whole team.
Marcus Sale normally a scrum half played flanker and centre.
Yousef Edris who has played for Norfolk at Youth and U20's and is still under 20 and was a late call up.
He normally plays in the front row but played in no less than 5 different positions.
The team was lead by Bruce van Poortvliet Captain, Assisted by Fraser Hall.
The Trophy was presented to the Captain Bruce by the President of Eastern Counties Hugh Davis.
Martin Crook President of Norfolk Rugby said "This is a brilliant evening for Rugby in the Eastern Counties and particularly in Norfolk (as we won).
Three hundred plus people had attended to see a great group of players from across Norfolk and Suffolk come together on a Wednesday evening to see a great game of rugby and a lot of old friends which is what it is all about. I would like to thank the Coaches, Team Managers and Players for making it happen.
Thanks to Bury R.U.F.C. and Suffolk for being such great hosts.
I am really looking forward to Norfolks Big Rugby Day being held at Crusaders Rugby Club on the 9th May 2016 when all the Norfolk Woodfordes Senior Cup finals will be played. We are hopeful that Mustard T.V. will be telavising the Senior Final Live!
